Bicester & North Oxford vs Buckingham Town

Andrew Holland writes:
A weakened Buckingham team arrived at Bicester on Saturday for their first pre-season game under grey skies. Bicester won the toss and chose to bat in a game reflecting the new Cherwell League rules of 52 overs in the first innings and 48 overs in the second. Shiv Talsania and Daryl Woods opened the innings and looked uncertain with plenty of play and misses and several missed opportunities. Towns opening bowling attack of Greg Pearson and new player Leo Churns were tidy and runs were a struggle. The score crept to 89-0 from 29 overs before the Dan Harris and Rob Large took 4 wickets 24 balls to leave the score at 89-4. Only House got in after that for Bicester as they crept to 162-8 in their 52 overs with Harris, Large and Pearson all finishing with 2 wickets.

In reply, Buckingham lost an early wicket but Leigh Tomlinson and Jonny Cater steadied the ship by adding 52 runs in 11 overs. Cater made 27 and Parker 24 to support a fine 70 from Tomlinson and Buckingham were 134-5 after 34 overs. 29 runs needed from 14 overs. But with rain falling and the light fading batting became very hard and over the next 10 overs only 18 runs were scored for the loss of 3 wickets with the scoring crawling to 152-8. Thoughts of a surprise win for Bicester were short lived though as Buckingham crossed the line with 7 balls to spare to start there season with a tough but important win.

Great Horwood vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI

Neville Pritchard writes:
Buckingham town 2nd X1 enjoyed a competitive and thorough pre-season game at Great Horwood in which Great Horwood just sneaked the result with 4 balls remaining. The game was very close and exciting for those watching and both captains were able to involve all in their teams and provide players with valuable practice in the middle.

In very cold conditions new captain Dominic Pritchard won the toss and elected to bat. Buckingham totalled 154-7 from their 40 overs on a slow wicket and outfield.

An opening partnership of 35 between Mike Taylor (35) and Matthew Thatcher(15) provided a solid start to the innings and the bulk of the runs were then scored by Robin Pritchard in fine touch making 52 not out. Harrison taking 3-23 was the pick of the bowling as all six bowlers were given overs.

Great Horwood in response lost early wickets but Tom Spurr hit a rapid 37 with 30 in boundaries to give them the edge. Neil Taylor then guided his team home with support from Gary Lee and Mick Howe. He fell in the penultimate over - a wicket maiden before Armitage finished the game with a four. Buckingham also gave all six bowlers valuable overs with all six taking a wicket.
