Buckingham Town vs Oxford
Andrew Holland writes:
After a rusty performance to start the season the week before
Buckingham travelled to Oxford with only 10 players. They lost the
toss and were put into bat in a time game. From the first ball the
openers looked positive with Rob Large and Leigh Tomlinson adding
28 in 7 overs. The attacking attitude undid Large though as he was
caught for 19. Jonny Cater came into join Tomlinson and continued
the fast scoring. He rode his luck with a several chances being
put down, but kept going to bring up his 50 from 42 balls. Either
side of the drinks break both Tomlinson (35) and Cater (77) fell
to leave Buckingham at 138-3. The rate slowed after the wickets
and the visitors consolidated to push the score up beyond 200 with
Stuart Parker contributing 40. At tea Large was able to declare
with the score on 215-7 from 47 overs.
In reply the home side started slowly as, in the fourth over,
Jason Ell took 2 wickets in 3 balls. Fox and Thomas began to
rebuilding process but runs were hard to come by and at the start
of the last hour the score had crept to 79-2 from 23 overs. James
Gear snapped up Thomas soon after that and the game looked
destined for a draw. It was in the 36th over with the score on 126
that Fox brought up his 50 from 114 balls in what was a
disappointingly negative approach according to his team-mates. It
was in the last 8 overs that the game brightened up though as Fox
fell for 68 and Simon Gray for a well made 48 from 58 balls as
Oxford hit 55 runs to end on 181-5.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Oxford 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Town's 2nds lost by 3 runs to Oxford 3rds in a close game. Oxford
batting first scored a respectable 161-9 from their 45 overs.
All Town's bowlers did well especially Steve Brunning 2-34. Keeper
Robin Pritchard had 4 victims and Matt Thatcher 2-32 and Dom
Pritchard 3-22 kept the run rate down.
In reply Town lost Mike Taylor for a duck but Matt Thatcher(33)
and Graham Judd(32) were solid before Russell Thompson(47) took
over as Town looked likely winners. However Oxford's Jon Finch
7-26 ripped the innings apart as Oxford stole victory. Young Josh
Whitehead batted well for his 15 not out.
