Kidlington vs Buckingham Town

Andrew Holland writes:
Buckingham arrived at Kidlington just above the relegation zone, and hoping that a win over the bottom side would push them towards safety. They won the toss, and inserted the 10 man Kidlington into bat. The openers got off to a steady start, and despite a chance to the slips that wasn't held, looked in control. Shazad Rana was the main stay as he set about scoring at good rate. It wasn't until the introduction of spinner James Gear that brought the first wicket with the score on 68. Richard Howiit joined Rana and kept the score moving. The 100 came up and at lunch the score was 123-1.

After lunch Buckingham used the spinners and the run rate slowed. Rana moved past 50 and the hosts looked set for a big score. Gear and Stafford fought back though as they took 3 wickets for 29 runs including Rana (73) and Howiit (35) to leave the score 165-4 from 48 overs. Kidlington captain Dave Taylor came to the wicket and set into the bowling. He scored 58 from just 48 balls so that despite 2 wickets from Dewayne Bowden the score finished on 237-6 from 60 overs.

Buckingham got off to a flyer as they scored 20 in the first 3 overs, only to lose 3 wickets on 20 as opener Bilmalka Liyanarachchy took 2 wickets in 2 balls. Dewayne Bowden and Stuart Parker both got starts as Buckingham rebuilt the innings, but tight bowling kept the scoring down. Bowden was caught before Parker went caught behind just before tea to leave the visitors struggling on 62-5.

With thoughts of a win out of the question, Buckingham played for the draw, and both Greg Pearson and James Tomlinson did a good job. The two of them batted through 18 overs after tea adding a partnership of 50 to ensure Buckingham a batting point. With less than 10 overs to go, the draw looked sealed, but with a last throw of the dice, Taylor turned to Tim Dredge. In a 3 over spell he took 3 for 4 including the wicket of Pearson (27). Opening bowler Jamil Faruq then removed Tomlinson for 33, and the Kidlington were in search of the full 25 points. 10 and 11 Jason Ell and Leo Churms survived for 5 overs though to ensure the draw with Buckingham ending on 127-9.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Banbury20 2nd XI

Bob Hutt writes:
In a disappointing display Buckingham's 2nd XI crashed to defeat to Banbury 20 2nds.

Inserted by the Oxon side Town were always struggling as they slumped to 24-4. A partial recovery through R.Thompson(23),G. Judd(23) and A. Thatcher(19) stopped the rot but Town could only make 111 all out.

Banbury reached their target losing five wickets after 44 overs with Webberburn(31) top scoring. Town's 2nds lost the top spot after this set back to their title hopes.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Banbury IV

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds drew their match against Banbury IV but still lead division 8b of the Cherwell League. Buckingham were inserted and made a respectable 185-7.

Openers Stuart Helps(37) and Matt Dipple(26) gave them a good start and their good work was continued by Callum Cater(39) and Chris Wigan who struck a massive six in his 40 runs. For Banbury Phillips took 4-93 from 23 overs and Berry 3-30.

Banbury in reply lost wickets early on and never looked like winning the match and despite Buckingham's efforts the opposition played out a draw after Town had grabbed eight wickets. Stuart Helps took 3-44 and Tim Wigan 2-5 in a frustrating match for Buckingham in which they bowled 58 overs in an effort to win as their visitors scored just 21 runs from the last 18 overs.
