Buckingham Town vs Thatcham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Town lose must win game
With Buckingham missing 5 players for a crucial match in the
battle to avoid relegation, they were up against it from the
start. They lost the toss and were inserted into bat. Openers
Leigh Tomlinson and Jonny Cater got off to a steady start. With
the start brought forward to 11am for the last three games of the
season the ball moved around early on and scoring was
slow. Opening bowlers Andy Harland and Ali Naqvi were accurate and
fielding alert, but wickets failed to come. The fifty came up and
the run rate began to approach 3 an over before the introduction
of spinner Bishop brought about the first wicket. Dewayne Bowden
joined Cater in the middle and the two of them battled through to
lunch at 114-1 from 42 overs.
Cater went to his 50 straight after lunch before being caught
behind off the bowling of Naqvi for 54. James Tomlinson and Bowden
started to play their shots as the score climbed past 150 before
both going in consecutive Naqvi overs. The final few overs failed
to see the acceleration that Buckingham had hoped for with only
Stuart Parker making a contribution as he hit an unbeaten 23 from
18 balls including a 6 off the final ball of the innings. The
score finished on 190-6.
With their bowling attack badly depleted Buckingham managed to
restrict the scoring at first due to some tight bowling from
Bowden and Churms. Openers Ali Naqvi and Jim Ettridge batted
sensibly without giving any chances and brought up the 50 in the
fifteenth over. Unfortunately for the home team the introduction
of spin back fired as boundaries began to come with
regularity. Naqvi brought up his 50 from 70 balls and Ettridge
soon joined him. At tea the score was 151-0 with just another 40
needed for Thatcham to win.
Thatcham took just 5 overs after tea to win the game with Naqvi
going to a fine 100 from just 112 balls with 18 fours and a
6. Ettridge finished 75 not out.

Kimble vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds returned to winning ways with a comfortable 8
wicket win over Kimble.
Kimble elected to bat first but could only score 138 all out.
Opening bowlers Ryan Spragg 3-26 and Steve Brunning bowled well as
Kimble struggled against them and after a tidy spell of 1-37 from
16 overs from Richard Pengelly skipper Dom Pritchard 2-35 and
Chris Coates 3-14 cleaned the tail up. Buckingham made a good
start with openers Matt Thatcher(28) and Adrian Johnson(33) and
their good work was carried on by Graham Judd (35no) and Andy
Thatcher(12no) as Town strolled home.

Wallingford 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds had an excellent 6 wicket win over promotion
chasing Wallingford 2nds to maintain top spot in division 8b of
the Cherwell League.
Skipper Neville Pritchard won the toss and elected to field.
On a difficult batting track Wallingford struggled throughout
after Grist(26) and V.Emmett(32) had given them a patient start.
Town only used two bowlers and they were both in good form.
Stuart Helps took 1-79 from his 24 overs and Paul Sly a super
7-45 from his 23 overs as Wallingford made a modest 127-8.
Buckingham ground out an important win.
Nigel Norman(28) provided the anchor role and both John Talbot(32)
and Stuart Helps(33) were in excellent form to see Town to
victory. Callum Cater(14) did well with the bat also.
With two matches remaining Town's 3rds have an excellent chance of
the title.
