Buckingham Town vs Basingstoke&N.Hants
Andrew Holland writes:
Town stay alive with vital win
Buckingham prepared for their last home game of the season knowing
that a defeat would almost certainly relegate them back to the
Cherwell League. They won the toss and inserted Basingstoke in
overcast conditions. Opening bowlers Leo Churms and Dewayne Bowden
started well with runs being restricted and the batsman looking
edgy. In the 5th over Churms struck the huge blow by having
Basingstoke captain Mitchell Stokes caught at cover for 3. 4 balls
later he removed the new batsmen and the score was 12-2, the
perfect start for the hosts. A few overs later Churms claimed his
3rd wicket before Bowden chipped in and after 10 overs Basingstoke
were 19-4. The new batsman tried to rebuild the innings, and
slowly started to move the score upwards. The change bowlers of
Jason Ell and Greg Pearson kept the pressure on though as both
took a wicket with the score on 46. Overseas player Kumaran Thirun
came to the wicket and played his shots. The 7th wicket put on 30
with Thirun and extras scoring all the runs before Ell ran out
Coombs for 0 with an excellent direct hit. Thirun was bowled just
before lunch so that the score at the break was 94-8.
With the resumption of play Williamson and Harris batted well,
adding 43 in 18 overs. The last 2 wickets fell in consecutive
Pearson overs though to end the innings on 130. Pearson claimed 4
for 28 from 10 overs.
Buckingham seemed intent to win convincingly as openers Rob Large
and Leigh Tomlinson put on 40 in 11 overs. Tomlinson was caught
off Thirun though before Large hit Harris' first ball straight to
mid-off. Jonny Cater and Dewayne Bowden continued to score well
before Bowden padded up to Harris and Cater was caught close in
for 30. After 22 overs the score was 92-4, and a touch of nerves
appeared. 18 runs were scrapped off 10 overs before James
Tomlinson was caught at slip for 14. At tea the score was 112-5.
James Gear was lbw 2nd over after tea and with still 18 runs to
win Buckingham were feeling the pressure. 13 runs came off the
next 11 overs as Pearson and Ben Stafford fought hard. Stafford
finally seemed to get frustrated though with 5 to win launching 2
big 4s in 3 balls to win the game by 4 wickets and keep
Buckingham's Home Counties status alive.

Chearsley vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds had a 5 wicket win away to Chearsley 1sts to
keep up their challenge for the Div 4 Cherwell League Title with
one round of matches left.
Skipper Dom Pritchard won the toss and put Chearsley into bat and
they struggled to 109 all out.
M.Hignall(31) top scored as the Town's bowlers were well on top
and keeper Robin Pritchard kept superbly throughout the
innings(three stumpings) in a very polished display supporting the
bowlers all day.
After a slow start thanks to tidy bowling from Steve Brunning 1-31
and Ryan Spragg 1-23, Skipper Dom Pritchard 2-22 from 10 overs and
Stephen Lewis 3-13 from 6 overs kept up the good work abd Chris
Coates grabbed the last two wickets for 12 runs. With Matt
Thatcher away on holiday Mike Taylor(23) and Ade Johnson(12) gave
Town a steady start and their good work was carried on by Stephen
Lewis who batted very well for a match winning 45 runs. Town's
allrounder had a good day with the bat and the ball. With five
wickets down Russell Thompson 12n.o. and Graham Judd 6 not out
saw Town home to a vital win. For Chearsley E. Holland took 3-34.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Chearsley 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds clinched the division 8b Cherwell League
Title beating lowly Chearsley 2nds by nine wickets.
The 3rds have had a superb season losing just one match and
skipper Neville Pritchard was delighted.
Neville unfortunately was umpiring the 2nd XI match this weekend.
Acting skipper Stuart Helps won the toss and inserted Chearsley
and they struggled from the off and from their 47 overs reached a
meagre 108-7.
M. Claridge(42) batted well for Chearsley. Paul Sly returned 3-49
from 24 overs and tidy spells also came from Rob Laird, Richard
Pengelly 1-25,Chris Colbourn 1-8 and Stuart Helps 1-4.
Town's 3rds reached their target for the loss of one wicket with
Stuart Helps 74 not out in excellent form.
Stuart returning from injury a few weeks ago has shown tremendous
form with both bat and ball once again this season when fit.
A tremendous effort from the 3rds this season.
