Buckingham Town vs Burnham
Andrew Holland writes:
Town climb table with back to back wins! With many
feeling a better performance would have seen Buckingham win their
season opener against Farnham Royal
there was a positive mood
ahead of the return fixture. The toss was won by Buckingham who
did the only option on a wet pitch, bowled first. Leo Churms set
the ball rolling as he had the Farnham opener caught in just his
2nd over. Runs were a struggle and when Dewayne Bowden picked up 2
wickets in an over including the dangerous Shariffullah Naseri the
score was 20-3 from 10 overs. Overseas player Krishmar Santokie
arrived at the wicket and immediately gave some chances, first
caught off a no ball before being dropped several times. At the
same time boundaries were beginning to become a more regular
occurrence. Javed Khan offered good support for Santokie as they
put on 65 in just 10 overs. With lunch just around the corner
though Bowden took 3 wickets for just 11 runs as he picked up his
first 5 wicket haul of the season, Leigh Tomlinson taking his
tally of catches in the match to 3. Santokie remained at the
wicket though, bringing up his 50 from 44 balls so that at lunch
the score was 108-6.
The introduction of James Gear brought about the end of Santokies'
innings after lunch as he was caught in the deep for 61. Greg
Pearson then had the new batsmen lbw and the end of the innings
was in sight. Naveed Zaigham chanced his arm and scored 21 from 21
balls to get the score past the 150 mark before Gear took 2
wickets in 3 balls to end the innings on 151 all out.
With memories of a fine 130 from the reverse fixture Rob Large was
full of confidence hitting 2 early boundaries. Santokie had him
caught on the boundary for just 10 though before clean bowling
Leigh Tomlinson next ball so that the score was 17-2. Jonny Cater
also struck 2 boundaries before being bowled by Mohammed Amin and
the score was 30-3. Dewayne Bowden and Dan Harris started to
rebuild the innings, scoring at a good rate. Both reached 25
before Bowden was caught at mid off from Naveed Zaigham and Harris
was run out in a silly mix-up. This was followed by proof that
when you're out of form nothing goes for you as Stuart Parker was
stumped when the keeper later admitted his foot never left the
crease and James Tomlinson was on the wrong end of a close lbw. At
the tea the score was 101-7, with Farnham Royal favourites.
Greg Pearson and James Gear went out after tea knowing that time
wasn't an issue
they had 34 overs to score 51 runs. And apart
from an early 4 from Gear they scored mainly in singles, not
taking any risks and frustrating the bowlers. Slowly the runs
required were less than 40, 30, 20 and then they were in single
figures. Pearson struck 2 boundaries and it was 1 to win. The
return of Santokie had Gear caught for a well made 16 before Jason
Ell scored the winning single first ball to seal a fantastic
victory for the home side and move them to 6th in the
table. Pearson finished 27 not out.
