Buckingham Town vs Finchampstead
Andrew Holland writes:
Town bounce back to go fifth!
The sun was out as Buckingham prepared for their game with
Finchampstead. Having won by 9 wickets when the sides met earlier
in the season, Buckingham were hoping for a quick response to a
poor performance the previous week. Rob Large won the toss and
inserted Finchampstead. It took till the 4th over for Dewayne
Bowden to find a breakthrough, as he removed both openers in the
space of 4 balls. He then picked up his third wicket in the 8th
over and the score was 18-3. Scott Patterson and Sam Taylor began
to rebuild the innings. Patterson did the majority of the run
scoring as he dealt mainly in boundaries. The two of them added 65
in the space of an hour, and home side looked under
pressure. Taylor was caught behind 25 minutes before lunch off the
bowling of Greg Pearson for 14 which triggered a
collapse. Patterson reached his 50 before being caught at cover as
the score slid to 100-7 at lunch, Pearson claiming 4 wickets.
Matt Harper was the main stay after lunch. Nick Woodroffe offered
some support with 22 before being bowled by Leo Churms. The last
two batsmen also gave some resistance while Harper continued. Ben
Stafford came on and picked up the last two wickets to end the
innings 186 all out. Harper made 43 not out.
In response Buckingham slid to 25-2 when both openers were out
cheaply. Dewayne Bowden followed a few overs later for 10 and the
game was evenly poised. Jonny Cater and Dan Harris came to the
wicket, and although a few half chances occurred the two of them
got through to tea with the score on 87-3, with 100 runs to win.
22 runs were scored in 3 overs after tea, but just as the game was
looking comfortable for Buckingham, Harris was lbw off the spin of
Nick James for 26. Cater was then run out in the next over for 43
when the batsmen attempted a needless single, and the score was
114-5. Stuart Parker contributed 16 before he went too. Greg
Pearson and James Gear came together in a similar situation to two
weeks previous, needing 50 to win with wickets falling. Both
reached the 20s as got the total past 170. The return of Darron
Augustus removed both of them though, before Ben Stafford struck 2
fours to win the game by 2 wickets with 8 balls to go, and move up
to fifth in the table.
