Overstone Fliers vs Buckingham Wizards

Wizards clip Fliers wings

On a very wet Monday evening when nobody thought a game of cricket would take place the BTCC Wizards travelled to Overstone to try to extend their 100% record in the U10's Shires League. Captain Ryan Marsden won the toss and asked the Fliers to bat. On a slow wicket that was keeping low opening bowlers Ryan Marsden and Alistair Martin made life hard for the Overstone batsmen. Jordan Helps was an impressive stand-in behind the stumps before swapping the gloves with Martin. Spin twins Oliver Plummer-Clark and James Holmes were in fine form each taking a wicket a piece and keeping things tight. Albert Johnson; who's last minute dash to the game enabling the Wizards to field a full team; bowled tightly supported well by Joe Robey. The Fliers batsmen were not playing any big shots but were keeping the total ticking over, however excellent bowling from Jordan Helps taking two wickets and Soloman Janecki one wicket made sure Overstone did not get away. Alistair Martin kept as well as ever and took an excellent catch with Janecki being outstanding in the field. The Fliers still posted what proved to be a very competitive 47.

As the light faded and the weather closed in Buckinghams opening pair of Marsden and Johnson saw the Wizards off to a solid start losing no wickets. Holmes and Clark batted as their normal solid partnership again losing no wickets with Clark grinding out a hard fought 12 not out. At half way the Wizards innings was behind the run rate, at this point the game was turned upside down by Robey and Janecki for once Robey playing second fiddle to some inspired batting by Solomen Janecki completing a Man of the Match performance. When the last pair Jordan Helps Alistair Martin came to the crease the Wizards had a comfortable lead and although not in their best form Martin batted solidly to see the innings out.
