Gerrards Cross vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Town miss out in thriller
Buckingham lost the toss at Gerrards Cross on Saturday and on a
pitch that had seen a lot of rain during the week, were
inserted. Openers Rob Large and Leigh Tomlinson got the visitors
off to the start they needed though as they put on 50 in the first
15 overs. Large continued the form that he had been showing all
season with several 4s and a 6. But as has so often happened this
year, Buckingham were subject to a collapse as 4 wickets fell for
just 5 runs in 3 overs. Johnny Hughes was the main man taking 3 of
the wickets and leaving the score 56-4. Jonny Cater and Dewayne
Bowden began a recovery before a disastrous mix up saw both
batsmen at the same end with Cater having to go. Bowden was bowled
just before lunch and the score was 103-6.
After lunch scoring was slow as Buckingham looked to bat the full
60 overs. Stuart Parker (14) and James Gear (20) were the main
stays but wickets continued to fall. The Gerrards Cross bowlers
were accurate though with skipper Jon Newell taking 2 wickets
before Hughes returned with 2 to finish with 5 for 24. Buckingham
were all out for 143 in the 58th over.
Early wickets were needed and Greg Pearson delivered as he removed
both openers in his first 4 overs before Dewayne Bowden took 2
more so that the score was 31-4. Steve Rimmer and Johnny Hughes
came to the wicket with the game in the balance, and started to
build a partnership. Buckingham continued to bowl well though and
at tea the score was 65-4 from 25 overs.
When play continued, the score moved on to 91 with the partnership
past 50. The batsmen had some luck but the home side were in
control. Finally the luck ran out as Bowden had Rimmer caught at
slip. Gear then picked up the new batsman before a run out saw the
score stand at 130-7. Hughes had reached 50 though and it seemed
he would guide Gerrards Cross to victory before an attempted 6 off
Gear saw James Tomlinson take a good catch right on the boundary
to level the game up once more. 2 overs later another run out saw
the game poised at 6 runs or 1 wicket for victory. It wasn't to be
for Buckingham though as the new batsman hit a 4 to win the game
by 1 wicket.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Stokenchurch
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds drew their home match against Stokenchurch
with both sides scoring 248 in a dramatic finish.
Town put into bat started well through openers Mike Taylor(98) and
Matt Thatcher (56) who put on 124 for the first wicket. Both
openers were in fine form. Newcomer Stephen lewis from Bicester
scored a useful 23 before being unlucky to be run out.
At the close skipper Dom Pritchard 27n.o.(2 sixes) and Ben
Stafford 16no scored quickly as Town made a useful 248-5.
Stokenchurch lost a wicket in the first over after tea and then
they dug in through Langford(35) and Murton (39). The backbone of
their reply came from P. Maddock with 101 n.o.
For long periods in the game neither side looked like winning but
as Town bowled their overs briskly the end of the game ended
dramatically. Carpenter(21) and S. Read(23) scored quickly and
the visitors almost won the game as Town bowled four more overs
but the game ended with the scores level at 248. For Town Dom
Pritchard took 3-36.
