Farnham Royal vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Town Lose First League Game
On their first return to Home
Counties League since 2002 there were positive feelings within the
Buckingham camp. Their opponents were back in Division 2 following
relegation in 2007. Farnham won the toss and elected to bowl
first. Things started badly as Leigh Tomlinson fell early for
5. Dan Harris came in and found the boundary though and skipper
Rob Large twice pulled overseas bowler Krishmar Santokie for
6. From 11 overs the score was 60-1 when Harris was caught behind
for 13. Unfortunately the wicket triggered a collapse as the next
4 batsmen all failed to reach double figures with only Rob Large
showing any form. At lunch the score stood at 121-6 with Large not
out 67.
After lunch Rob Large finally found a batting partner in Greg
Pearson as they set about batting through the remaining 30 overs
of the innings. Although the rate was slow runs kept coming with
Large bringing up his century from 130 balls. Between them Large
and Pearson added 119 for the seventh wicket bringing the score to
240-6 from 54 overs. Pearson reached 50 from 94 balls before Large
fell for 130 (156 balls), and Pearson went 3 overs later. The
final 2 wickets adding only 3 runs to finish the innings 251 all
out from 58.5 overs, leaving Farnham 252 to win in 51 overs,
Santokie finishing with 6 wickets.
In reply Dewayne Bowden took 2 early wickets as the score moved to
33-2 from 7 overs. Opener Dan Simpson looked set for a big score
though as he picked off the runs around the field and formed a 50
run partnership for the 3rd wicket before Khan was caught at slip
off Pearson in the penultimate over before tea. At tea the score
was 83-3 from 17 overs and evenly poised for a good final session.
After tea Buckingham failed to press home any advantage they had
as Simpson moved to 50 from and captain Ollie Clayson scored
fluently. James Gear did manage to remove Simpson for 72 but new
batsman Santokie took the attack to the bowlers. Despite being
dropped twice he went for his shots and hit 53 from 43 balls with
2 fours and 5 sixes. Gear had Santokie caught late on but Clayson
(57 not out) saw the home side through to a 5 wicket victory with
20 balls to spare.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Oxford Downs 2nd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds had a fine 77 run victory over Oxford Downs
2nds after a fine performance from Ben Stafford who scored 58 n.o
and took 6-57.
Downs put Town into bat and after losing a couple of early wickets
G. Judd(40) and R.Pritchard(38) both batting well improved
matters. At 136-5 Town still needed to improve and thats when Ben
Stafford came in a crashed the ball round the ground for his
58n.o. He received good support from R. Thompson(19),Chris
Coates(19n.o.) and D. Pritchard(12) as a very respectable total
of 231-8 was reached. For Downs Steve Roberts bowled well for
5-103 although quite alot of catches went down which didn't help
Downs much.
Oxford Downs made a steady start and at 103-3 the match seemed
destined for a draw but suddenly Town saw wickets steadily fall as
Ben Stafford took 6-57 as Town won the match by 76 runs with a
good all round team performance. A superb run out by Andy Thatcher
dismissed the dangerous S. Roberts.

Twyford 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds won their first league match of the season
beating newcomers Twyford 2nds by five wickets. On a damp
difficult wicket Buckingham put Twyford into bat and apart from
T. Cook(23) they struggled early on against excellent bowling from
L. D'Silva 4-27 and Paul Sly 5-54. At 53-7 Town were well on top
as Twyford struggled to 98 all out.
Nev Pritchard did well behind the stumps. Sam Deal batted well for
his 18. Young steve brunning put in a tidy bowling spell.
Town in reply lost a quick wicket but recovered through Nigel
Norman 37n.o. and he received good support from J. Talbot(23) and
Stuart Helps (21) as Town achieved victory with five wickets left.
For Twyford N. Perna 3-50 and T. King 1-25 bowled well.
