Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Towcestrians

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds lost their sunday friendly against Towcesterians by 16 runs.

The Tows batted first and scored a useful 174-8 from their 40 overs.

Town had colts Harry Martin(3-28), Joe Payne(3-27) and ladies colt player Lottie Scarr(0-33) playing senior cricket for the first time and they all bowled very well.

Lottie just missed out on a wicket through a dropped catch.

Youngsters Aaron King and Luke Stafford opened the bowling and they did well with the ball also.

A very good effort from the youngsters on a very hot day. Gilder(62) and Roberts(52) were the backbone of the Tows batting. Town made a solid start with Russell Thompson(60) in fine form and Ian Wilkinson(50) batted solidly but after their fine efforts Town lost wickets steadily in the run chase and finished just 16 runs short of their target. Parish 4-33 and Roberts 3-19 bowled Tows to victory.

Olney Under 15 vs Buckingham Town Under 15

John Pengelly writes:

Buckingham Towns Under 15's maintain the winning start to the season.

Buckingham under 15's had 3 changes from the team that beat Stony with Miscampbell, Whitehead and Johnson coming in for the unavailable Hassell, Iceton and Gardener.

On a fine sunny day Olney won the toss and put Buckingham in to bat.

Whitehead was bowled by Knowks for 0 in the second over after a positive start by a lively Olney attack.

Buckingham found runs hard to come by as tight bowling by Olney put pressure on the batting side.

Oxley (23) began to cut loose before being bowled by Day. At the other end Man of the match Rhodes was consolidating the innings and would end up on an unbeaten 39.

After the departure of Oxley, Libby added a quick 18 and Johnson a secure 7 before being run out. However Olney in the guise of Knowks (1 -10), Day (1-10) Parkin (1 -14) and Body (1 -12) did well to restrict Buckingham to 102 for 5 off the 20 overs allotted.

Olney started briskly scoring 24 off of the first 3 overs before Whitehead had Parkin adjudged LBW for 7 in the 7th over.

Johnson chipped in with a match winning effort of 3 for 7 in 4 overs taking the vital wicket of Smail (27).

Jewson (18) looked impressive before King took a sharp return catch to remove the final threat to the Buckingham total.

At the close Buckingham had restricted Olney to 87 for the loss of 9 wickets to come out on top of this very close encounter.
