Buckingham Town vs Wokingham

Andrew Holland writes:

Town Fall to Second Defeat

After a disappointing performance in the first game of the season, Buckingham lost the toss in overcast conditions and were put into bat. 2 wickets fell in the first 6 overs though as opening Wokingham's opening bowlers applied the pressure, and when Rob Large was bowled for 21 the score was 28-3 from 12 overs. Dewayne Bowden and Jonny Cater dug in after the early wickets, and although runs were slow to come they didn't lose any wickets as a good partnership began to grow. After 20 overs the score was 59-3 and the batsman began to increase the run rate. A couple of catches went down but the runs were starting to flow as Bowden brought up his 50 with a straight 6. A brief stop for rain saw 2 overs lost but at lunch the score was 118-3 from 33 overs.

The lunch break came at the wrong time though as, with the score on 127, Cater was bowled by leg spinner Dan Duran for 38 and the innings capitulated in a 76 ball spell that saw 7 wickets fall for 13 runs. Martin Willow the main wicket taker with 6 for 47. Buckingham were all out for 140.

Openers Dan Duran and Adam England started the chase positively as they put on 53 in the first 12 overs to begin thoughts of a win before tea. Churms removed Doran for 22 but the runs continued with the score reaching 94-1 from 19 overs. Spinner James Gear got the breakthrough though as he removed the Wokingham skipper for 23 before Bowden had England well caught for 44. Gear picked up another wicket soon after before Jason Ell had 2 wickets in 2 balls to leave the score 130-6 at tea, with only 11 runs needed to win.

Any thoughts of a shock win for the hosts were dispelled after tea though as the batsmen took 20 balls to knock off the 11 runs needed sending Buckingham to played 2, lost 2.
