Finchampstead vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Thumping Win Kick Starts Season!
Buckingham won the toss on their first visit to Finchampstead and
elected to bowl first. There was a change in the new ball
partnership with Greg Pearson being restored to the role he played
in well throughout last year, and it took him only 3 overs to
repay his captain as the Finchampstead opener was caught at square
leg for 2. Between them Pearson and Dewayne Bowden bowled a tight
14 over spell which reduced the home side to 29-2 before Leo
Churms struck in his first over and Pearson took his second, and
the score was 37-4. Sam Cheetham rode his luck with edges beating
fielders and his runs coming mainly in boundaries, but the support
was thin as Churms claimed 2 more wickets before lunch to end the
session with Finchampstead 82-6.
After lunch Cheethams luck ran out as he was caught behind off
Bowden for 32. Bowden and Churms both took another wicket and the
score had limped to 103-9. The final pair showed resistance
though, battling away for 16 overs and contributing 37 before
Bowden wrapped the innings up in the 59th over for 140. Churms
took 4-24 and Bowden 4-34.
The reply was a total contrast to the first innings as Rob Large
and Leigh Tomlinson got stuck into the bowling and scored at 5
runs an over in comfort. Large especially played his shots with 3
huge sixes. Both batsmen passed 50 and the teams took tea at 121-0
with 20 to win.
Unfortunately Large was bowled by spinner Cheetham for 72 (76
balls) after tea before Bowden hit consecutive 4s to give
Buckingham their first win of the season.

Buckingham Town 2nd XI vs Princes Risborough 1st XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds drew their league match against Princes
Risborough 1sts.
Risborough chose to bat and made a useful
232-2 from their 52 overs. Paul Strong 112n.o. and A. Morton
74n.o. were in excellent form as Town's bowlers had little joy.
Ben Stafford(1-78) and Richard Pengelly bowled long spells and had
good figures until a late run chase spoiled them.
In reply
Andy Thatcher(32) scored briskly before being caught. Mike
Taylor(22) and Graham Judd(32) batted well taking the score up to
93 with the game finely balanced.
A. Hitchcock 5-49 then saw
wickets fall cheaply with only Russell Thompson(19) looking good.
Buckingham closed on 141-8 from their 48 overs with the Buckingham
tail holding out for a draw.

Aston Rowant 3rd XI vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds had a big league win over Aston
Rowant 3rds by 130 runs.
Town were inserted and made
a fine start through openers Stuart helps(71) and Tom Jones(65)
who batted very well putting on 154 for the 1st wicket.
Anant Peshavaria 38n.o. saw Town to a useful 216-6.
Right from the start Rowant struggled against Paul Sly 1-14
from ten overs and Steve Brunning 3-11 who continued his impressive
form this season with the ball. Young Robbie Laird 2-15 and newcomer
Chris Wigan 4-20 saw Town home to an impressive win. Brunning also
took an excellent catch.
