Buckingham Town vs Cumnor
Andrew Holland writes:
Town Finish Friendlies Unbeaten
The final friendly before the league season saw Buckingham put out
close to their strongest side. After some early confusion which
saw the game start an hour late Cumnor won the toss and inserted
Buckingham. Scoring started slow and when the first wicket fell
the score was 12-1 from 7 overs. Leigh Tomlinson and Dan Harris
battled through to the 16th over before both fell in consecutive
overs to leave the score 46-3. New overseas player Dewayne Bowden
looked in control of the situation straight away as he struck
several boundaries including a flick of the legs for 6. Wickets
continued to fall though and with the score 126 Bowden became the
6th man out for 41. James Tomlinson and Greg Pearson came together
and began to rebuild the innings. With runs coming mainly in ones
and twos the score crept up and after their 52 overs Buckingham
finished 196-9 with Tomlinson 37 and Pearson 29 not out.
After tea Buckingham's new opening bowling attack of Bowden and
Leo Churms bowled quickly and accurately. Morteza tried to attack
but was caught behind off Churms for 26 while Bowden took 2
wickets. Change bowlers Greg Pearson and Jason Ell also chipped in
with a wicket apiece to leave Cumnor 65-5 after 27 overs. Being a
friendly however, skipper Rob Large released the pressure by using
the slower bowlers and slowly Sam Jones and Jamie Douglas build a
partnership. Jones took 38 balls to get off the mark while Douglas
looked in fine touch scoring at nearly a run a ball. They added 91
from just 100 balls to put Cumnor within touching distance before
Douglas fell for 59 as Dan Harris took 3 late wickets. Ghazali
tried to win the game with an entertaining 25 from 19 balls but
the score finished on 192-8 for an exciting draw.
