Great Tew vs Buckingham Town (OTCL Cup)

Andrew Holland writes:

Town struggle into finals

Skipper Jason Ell won the toss and inserted Great Tew into bat on Saturday. Hopes of early pressure soon faded though as Tews openers Garrett and Powles set about building a solid opening partnership. Jason Ell bowled a tight spell of 9 overs for 24 but after 20 overs the score had moved to 69-0. The introduction of Richard Pengelly brought about the break through as he had Garrett caught at mid on for 33. He followed this up with 2 more wickets as the score moved to 90-3 after 27 overs. Although runs continued to come, wickets also fell as the score moved to 126-6 with 10 overs left. Sam Catling guided the hosts through the last 10 overs with 19 as they scored 55 to finish with a competitive 181-8.

In reply things could't have started worse for Buckingham as the Great Tew opening bowlers started accurately and removed both opening batsmen for ducks. They were followed in the 12th over by Lewis for 9 and the score was 25-3. Jonny Cater and Graham Judd began the fight back, focusing on the singles and keeping the scoreboard ticking. They added 63 together before, in an attempt to up the run rate Cater was caught on the boundary off skipper Kevin Taylor for 40. Taylor then picked up a second wicket in his next over so that the score was 100-5 from 31 overs. With the rate touching 6 an over Judd continued to rotate the strike and new batsmen Ben Stafford took the attack to the bowlers. They put on 58 in 53 balls with Judd moving to 50 before he fell for 57 and Stafford for 26 in consecutive balls. 2 more wickets fell before a no ball gave Buckingham victory by 1 wicket with 9 balls left.
