Oxford 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Town off to Winning Start
Skipper Jason Ell won the toss and chose to bowl first at Oxford
on Saturday. He immediately vindicated his decision by removing
the Oxford II's opener for a duck in the first over. That was the
only success in the first 15 overs however as Mehmood and Perkin
put on 47 against Ell and fellow opener Gear. With the
introduction of Vish Valambhia and 2 alert run outs Town fought
back to turn 47-1 into 78-5 after 29 overs. It was left to Oxford
skipper Ian Evans and Greg Stern to rebuild the innings as they
slowly ticked the scoreboard along. Both moved into the 40s as
they added 88 to take the score up to 166. The introduction of
Towns new overseas player Brook Hatwell broke the partnership as
he bowled Evans for 49. Hatwell took 2 more wickets to finish with
3 for 26 as the Oxford innings closed on 192-9 from their 53
overs.
In reply Oxfords opening bowler gave the hosts the perfect start
as he removed Thatcher for 2 in the second over. Jonny Cater came
in and began briskly in partnership with Tomlinson before Beer had
Tomlinson caught at square leg for 17. Brook Hatwell joined Cater
and the two of them put on a strong partnership to put Buckingham
in strong control. Caters 50 came up from 49 balls and at the
drinks the score had reached 114-2. The introduction of Oliver at
the drinks break did for Cater though as he was caught at mid-on
for 67 (72 balls). Steve Lewis came in to join Hatwell and built
another partnership as the Oxford bowlers struggled to even
produce half chances. Hatwell followed up his 3 wickets with a 50
as Buckingham won by 7 wickets in 44th over.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Oxford 4th XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds started their league season with a
draw (5pts) against a strong Oxord V side(14pts) after a
creditable display with a under strength side. Town had seven
youth players in the side and they all did well.
The visitors batting first scored a useful 255-1. Buckingham used
five youth bowlers who all performed well and deserve praise.
Olly Shipman and Matt Foster made their senior debut for Town.
James Underwood took Town's sole wicket.
In reply Buckingham held onto a draw with 130-6 thanks to John
Talbot(65) and Nigel Norman(30).
