Buckingham Town Cricket Club - April 24th 2010
Banbury Town vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Banbury won the toss and batted first as Buckingham began their
2010 season. Jason Ell and Josh Nix showed some good control early
on picking up a wicket apiece to leave the hosts 32-2 from 10
overs. Nathan Hawkes came in at number 4, and after being dropped
on 0, set about making Buckingham pay for the mistake, racing to a
32 ball 50. Haupt gave him good support at the other end with 33
as the pair added 125 for the 3rd wicket. Hawkes continued to play
aggressively, hitting 14 fours and 4 sixes as his 100 came up from
87 balls. When he was eventually stumped for 116 the score was
196-4 after 35 overs and Banbury were well set. Although
Buckingham picked up regular wickets from then on Lloyd Sabin (59
off 64) and Luke Ryan (56 off 29) ensured the run rate didn't slow
with Banbury finishing their 50 overs on 326-9. Ell was the pick
off the bowlers with 3-46 from 10 overs.
In response Buckingham's opening batsmen made a solid start. Both
Leigh Tomlinson and Rob Large batted sensibly, but with regular
boundaries. They both reached 50 as the score crept forward. The
pair put on 177 in 38 overs before Large fell for 73, and
Tomlinson went in the next over for 92. The task facing Buckingham
to win the game was too big at that point, and wickets fell
regularly with Cater (13), Pearson (11) and Judd (10) making
double figures as Buckingham ended on 222-7.
