Buckingham Town vs Oxford Downs

Andrew Holland writes:

Town fall short as batting flops

Town won the toss and elected to bowl first. They got off to a good start as Jason Ell had his opposite number Woods caught in the gully for 2. Crouch and Buckingham settled in and built a solid partnership, adding 68 in 20 overs. Ell struck twice in 2 balls to remove Buckingham (38) and Bartlett as the run rate slowed to almost a standstill. Taylor joined Crouch and between them they added 48 to take the score past 100. The introduction of Ben Stafford brought 2 quick wickets so that Oxford Downs went into the final 10 overs at 127-5. Crouch reached a hard worked 50 before falling lbw to Valambhia for 57. James Gear took 2 wickets in his final over as the visitors finished on 177-8. Ell the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 26.

Leigh Tomlinson and Rob Large got Buckingham off to a flyer, with 22 coming off the 4th over. The pair put on 53 in 10 overs before Simon Launder bowled Tomlinson for 15. Launder then ran through the rest of the top order claiming 4 of the first 5 wickets to leave the hosts 69-5. Jason Ell joined Jonny Cater at the crease, and between them they tried to rebuild the innings. They added 69 in 21 overs to set up Buckingham for victory before Ell was lbw for 18. Cater went to 50 and looked like he would see the game home, but unfortunately wickets fell at the other end, including Nick Cadman being run out backing up so that the innings finished on 175-9, Cater 74 not out.

Cropredy vs Buckingham Town 2nd XI

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 2nds had a sparkling 78 run league win over top of the table Cropredy and now move up to 3rd in the table. Put into bat Buckingham made a solid start through Mike Taylor(52) and Graham Judd(25) and their good work was carried on by James Tomlinson(29). Young Callum Cater batted very well for his 50 not out and Harry Martin and Russell Thompson both chipped in with 15 apiece as Town made a respectable 200-9.

Cropredy struggled from the start after tidy opening bowling spells from Matt Dipple and Ryan Spragg. Long spells from Dom Pritchard 2-24 and Harry Martin 3-35 kept Buckingham well on top as Crpredy were dismissed for 122. James Tomlinson and Richard Pengelly grabbed a wicket apiece at the end.

Buckingham Town 3rd XI vs Great Tew 3rd XI

Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town won a high scoring game against Great Tew 3rds in sensational style winning off the last ball of the match when young Frank Johnson bowled the Tew number 11.

Town put into bat made a solid start through openers Steve Brunning(37) and Alex O'Dell(29) and then Mark James batted well for his 48 but the innings of the Town score was from skipper Helps who was in superb nick scoring an excellent 81 as Town made 253-7.

For Tew openers Licence(76) and Marks(64) put on 132 for the first wicket as the visitors looked set to run Town close. A middle order collapse brought Buckingham back into the game but a late rally by Tew saw them bowled out for 245 just 8 runs short. Skipper Stuart Helps completed a great days cricket taking 5-46 and last ball hero Frank Johnson took 3-55 whilst Steve Brunning and Jack Wilkins had one wicket apiece both important.
