Oxford 2nd XI vs Buckingham Town
Andrew Holland writes:
Ben Stafford leads town to first win
In desperate need of a win, Buckingham lost the toss on a green,
cracked pitch at Oxford and were put into bat. Leigh Tomlinson and
Rob Large got them off to a steady start with a solid 50
partnership before Large was bowled by Brad Sutherland. Jonny
Cater came in and built another partnership with Tomlinson, with
the score passing 100. Tomlinson reached his third 50 of the
season and looked comfortable. With the score on 119 Oxford
skipper Ian Evans took 2 wickets in 2 balls before picking up
Tomlinson for 62 in his next over. Another wicket fell soon after
and the score was 136-5. Dan Harris and Ben Stafford came together
and both played against their natural games to begin the
recovery. The partnership went past 50 before they cut lose to
launch 41 from 4 overs. Stafford was lbw for 43 from 44 balls and
Harris reached his 50 from 80 balls. Buckingham declared on 224-6
from 50 overs.
Buckingham's seam bowlers received some tap early on as Oxford
II's got off to a quick start. Josh Nix took the early wicket off
Brad Sutherland, but the run rate still went along at over 4 an
over. Vish Valambhia broke the partnership with a caught and
bowled but skipper Ian Evans came in and continued to score
quickly. Ben Stafford was introduced into the attack and first
ball snared a sharp caught and bowled to remove Evans and
immediately the game changed. Next over James Gear removed opener
Rendell for 34 before Stafford bowled Morgan. At 126-5 a brief
shower took the players off, but only 2 overs where lost. On the
resumption Stafford carried on where he left off picking up 3 more
wickets and completing an excellent five wicket haul as the score
slid to 145-8. Nick Hands and Harry Porter where playing for the
draw, batting for 10 overs to get to within 15 minutes of the 7:30
cut off. Josh Nix was brought back into the attack and had Porter
brilliantly caught by Judd in the gulley to bring the final man to
wicket. Valambhia returned to bowl a maiden before Nix had Leach
caught by another superb Judd catch to win the game by 52 runs.

Banbury IV vs Buckingham Town 3rd XI
Bob Hutt writes:
Buckingham Town 3rds drew their league match away
to Banbury IV. The lack of bowling didn't help their
cause. Banbury made a respectable 221-7. Skipper Stuart
Helps bowled throughout taking 4-104 from 23 overs, young
Jack Wilkins took 2-44 and Harry Martin 1-67 as Town were
without key bowlers for the match.
Buckingham made a solid start through Alex O'Dell(22) and
Ade Johnson(10) and their efforts were backed up by Harry
Martin(25) and Russell Thompson(21). A slight middle order
collapse saw Town get a draw with Stuart Helps in fine form
with 39 not out as Buckingham closed on 151-7.
