Buckingham Town vs Horspath

Andrew Holland writes:

Town left to rue quick over rate

Following a rained off season opener, Buckingham were inserted into bat by Horspath seeking a win to make up ground on the early league leaders. Robert Large and Leigh Tomlinson made a steady start as the Horspath seam bowlers were given no assistance from the pitch. They added 50 in 13 overs, and when spin was introduced continued to build a score although the rate slowed. Both passed 50, and after the drinks break attempted to increase the scoring rate. Tomlinson finally fell to a diving one handed catch off the bowling of Ben Cook for 67 with the score on 143. Four overs later Large was caught on the boundary for 82 off Cook before Paul Jeacock removed Cadman for 2. Buckingham managed 61 from the final 10 overs thanks to contributions from Cater (22), Harris (14) and Judd (18 not out) to finish on 234-6.

Like the Horspath bowlers before them, the opening bowlers for Buckingham failed to get any help out of the surface. Horspath added 47 for the opening wicket before Josh Nix had Todd caught behind for 15. After that Horspath struggled with only 39 coming from the next 17 overs. Chris Penner made 54 before clipping Vish Valambhia to Harris at square leg, and when Krol followed in the same way for 1 the score was 86-3. Skipper Robbie Eason struggled as he made 9 from 50 balls before cutting loose. He struck 8 boundaries on his way to an 85 ball 50 as a sudden burst off runs came. Rana (26 off 20) and Mohammed (17 off 26) chipped in as they drew closer. Buckingham bowled their 47 overs by 6:45, leaving them an additional 45 minutes to bowl. Although the game went to the final over at 7:30, Horspath crossed the line to win by 4 wickets, with Eason finishing 90 not out.
