Buckingham Town Cricket Club - Overview

Based in the centre of Buckingham, we are an ambitious Club with a thriving youth section, providing a good standard of competitive cricket on both Saturdays and Sundays, and across all junior age groups.

2008 promises to be a challenging year for the 1st XI after winning the Oxford Times Cherwell League in 2007. They are now back in the Home Counties Premier League Division Two (West).

The 2nd XI are again in division 4 of the Oxford Times Cherwell League and the 3rd XI who were relegated in 2007 are now in division 8(B) and will be looking for promotion.

Collecting the Cherwell League trophy, October 2007
The 3rd XI will again be using Stoke Hammond CC for their home games as they did in 2007.

Rob Large will again be Saturday 1st XI captain. Dom Pritchard takes over the Saturday 2nd XI and Stuart Helps again is in charge of the Saturday 3rd XI.

Ben Stafford is the new Sunday 1st XI skipper and Bob Hutt remains Sunday 2nds and midweek captain.

Our junior section covers all age groups from U10 through to U17 and the section has enjoyed alot of success over recent years. The Friday night U10 sessions and BBQ's have been a huge success.

In 2007 the -10's won the Shires Plate final and BTCC U15's under Paul Hill were Bucks County Cup winners.

Numerous juniors are representing Bucks and Northants, a trend which is set to continue. Robin Pritchard was the -17's regular wicketkeeper/batsman for Bucks -17's.

In 2007, 67 of the Club's -10's went to St. Albans and in the morning played nine matches with the Old Albanians juniors and in the afternoon the seniors played two matches partly made up of the Club's coaches. This event was a huge success and will be repeated in 2008.

Also in 2007 a girls section at the Club was started.

We are strongly committed to the development of local talent, with a very strong coaching structure in place at all age groups, including the senior squads.

New faces are always welcome at the club, whether you be experienced players looking for fresh challenges, or younger players seeking to realise their potential. Coaches and officials (umpires and scorers) are partically welcome along with anyone with a few hours a week spare to help run the club.

Founded in 1870 Buckingham Town Cricket Club are founder members of the Cherwell League. Apart from one year, when the club played in the Home Counties Premier League, Division Two (West), our club has been in the, now named, Oxford Times Cherwell League since 1973.

The major successes were in 2001 and 2007 when the 1st XI won the Cherwell League. The Sunday 1st XI won the F.G. Watts Cup Final in 2007.
