Youth Cricket At Buckingham Town
As a club, we are strongly committed to the identification,
development and promotion of local young talent – with come
success. Last season our first team featured at times three
players under 17, and our second and third XLs similarly gave
opportunities to young players to develop. With over twenty junior
players gaining representative honours last season, the future is
looking promising.
Coaching At Buckingham Town
As a club, we are committed to developing and promoting local
talent. As such, the youth section is extremely important to us,
and we are extremely fortunate to have the support of a large
number of coaches, team managers and senior players. For 2008 we
will continue with a structured programme that has been designed
to help our players develop from U10 through to senior cricket
– covering all the skills of the game, and also embracing
the principles of the Long-Term Athletic Development programme
(LTAD). This is a UK-wide sports initiative designed to help
identify and develop the stars of the future. Essentially, this
is split into four phases that are reflected in our coaching
programme:

This is an ambitious undertaking, and we are fortunate to be able
to call on a pool of ECB-qualified coaches and senior players. All
coaches and helpers undergo a full CRB check before being allowed
to work with players, and we place child welfare at the core of
all we do as a club.
Summer Coaching Clinics
Buckingham will continue our tradition of running coaching courses
during the Summer Holidays. These cover all aspects of the game,
and are all-day activity course run under the direction of a Level
II coach. Dates for this year's coaching course are 18 - 21 Aug 2008,
at 10am to 3pm each day.
Wet Weather and Cancellation Process
Sometimes weather or pitch conditions, or illness can cause us to
have to cancel sessions at short notice. Whenever possible, we
will announce any cancellations via the website or news
groups. For cancelled fixtures, every effort will be made to
contact all affected parents as soon as the club is notified of
the cancellation.

Programme:
Our aim is to provide an introduction to the game of cricket,
whilst looking to identify and encourage talented young
players. Our focus is very much on using cricket as a means of
developing the core basics of the ABCs - Agility, Balance,
Co-ordination and Speed.
More importantly, the emphasis is on FUN. Over the course of the
season, players will cover the basic skills of the game, covering
fielding, bowling and batting through fun games and
activities. The U10 will play a mixture of friendly and
competitive fixtures.
U11, U12, U13
Training: Sunday 10.00 – 12:00 (Dates TBA)
| U11 (Bucks) Team Manager | Mike Taylor (01280 824689) |
| U12 (Shires) Team Managers | Paul Sly (01280 817883) |
| U13 (Bucks) Team Manager | John Pengelly (01280 814669) |
Programme:
At these age groups, the emphasis is on encouraging young players
into cricket, developing and enhancing the basic skills of the
game, and starting to focus on how these skills can be moved to
the competitive game.
Activities are wherever possible differentiated to ensure that
talented players are encouraged to develop to their potential,
without discouraging those who may develop later. Specialist
coaches covering Wicket Keeping, Batting and Bowling will be more
actively involved to help this process - but the emphasis remains
very much on participation and enjoyment of the game.
U14, U15, U16
Training: U14, U15: Sunday 2.00 – 4.00pm (Dates TBA)
U16 TBA
| Team Manager U14 (Bucks and Shires) | John Pengelly (01280 814669) |
| Team Manager U15 (Bucks) | John Pengelly (01280 814669) |
| Team Manager U16 (Hair Moda League) | Paul Hill (01280 812666) |
Programme:
At these age groups, the emphasis moves gradually from skills
training to training for competitions. Much more use is made of
specialist coaching, and a far greater emphasis is placed on match
play – in particular tactical awareness and mental
preparation.
Players will also have the opportunity to play senior cricket
either on a Sunday, or with the 3XI on a Saturday, and it would be
normal for there to be an overlap with the Development Squad
programme.
Care will be taken with all players – but in particular with
bowlers – to limit the amount of cricket played each week to
minimise the risk of long-term injury to players – in line
with ECB guidelines.
